Se determinó el porcentaje de preñez, analizando el efecto del peso y edad al momento de la IATF, la estación donde se realizó (cálida o templado), el manejo durante el protocolo de IATF (óptimo o deficiente), y el macho caprino utilizado como donador de semen (refrigerado). Se inseminaron 217 cabras mestizas (3.47 años y 45.3 kg de peso vivo) distribuidas en 11 lotes entre 2019 y 2024. Las cabras fueron criadas bajo un sistema extensivo. Para el análisis estadístico se utilizó la regresión logística binaria (p<0.05) con PROC LOGISTIC del programa SAS. El porcentaje de preñez general fue de 47.5%. Los factores edad, peso, estación y manejo no tuvieron efecto sobre el porcentaje de preñez, mientras que el efecto «Macho» (uno de los seis machos) tuvo influencia en la preñez de las cabras.Ítem Gastrointestinal parasites in free grazing goats from Ayacucho, Peru: prevalence and risk factors associated with infection in herds(Research Square, 2024-03-28) Palomino Guerrera, Walter; Ramos Huaman, Michael; Flores Prado, Vania; Godoy Padilla, David; Zárate Rendón, Daniel A.recording the location, sex, and age of the animals. The fecal samples were analyzed using the flotation technique in salt and sugar solution, and modified McMaster egg counting techniques for eggs/oocysts (epg/opg) of gastrointestinal parasites. The associations between location, sex, and age with the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites were analyzed using the chi-square test. Fecal samples showed an overall parasite prevalence of 87.80%. The identified parasites were Eimeria spp. (86.22%), Strongyle type eggs (STE) (65.75%), Skrjabinema sp. (7.87%), Trichuris sp. (3.15%) and Moniezia spp. (3.15%). There was no significant association between the location and the presence of parasites (p<0.05), however, there was a higher prevalence and parasite variety in Luricocha. Sex and age did not have a significant association with parasitosis (p>0.05), except in prevalences of Trichurisspp. and Moniezia spp. (p<0.05). The epg/opg values revealed a higher parasite burden in goats from Colca compared to the other locations (p<0.05). There was also no statistical relationship between fecal egg/oocyst counts and sex or age, nevertheless, there were moderate and high parasitic burdens. Peru spans ecological gradients that likely drive regional phenotypic differentiation, yet the morphometric basis remains poorly resolved. We assessed the concordance between morphometric structuring of goats, ecosystem distribution, and regional origin. Body weight (BW) and seven linear body measurements (LBM) were recorded in 515 adult female goats sampled across five ecosystems and seven regions. Low-dimensional structure for BW and LBM was explored using uniform manifold approximation and projection with k-means clustering, and cluster separability was assessed using a linear support vector machine. Six body conformation indices supported body-type interpretation. Four morphometric clusters were identified, structured by Andean shrublands (AS), plains seasonally dry forest (PSDF), and inter-Andean seasonally dry forest (IASDF). Clusters C1 and C3 were dominated by AS goats (77% and 79%, respectively), revealing two morphotypes: a convexilinear form with elevated pelvic indices (C1) and a lighter, shorter, longilinear form (C3). Clusters C2 and C4 were mainly formed by PSDF (54%) and IASDF goats (66%), respectively, with C2 characterized by greater stature and thoracic robustness, and C4 by a narrower pelvic conformation. In contrast, goats from the other ecosystems exhibited greater heterogeneity. Each cluster was dominated by >60% of goats from a single region, with C1, C2, C3, and C4 associated with Ica, Piura, Ayacucho, and Amazonas, respectively. These findings establish the first ecosystem-based national morphometric framework for Peruvian Creole goats, linking body conformation to ecological and geographic context and informing conservation and potential geographical indications.Ítem Phaneroptic characterization and zoometric indices of Creole goats in the Ayacucho region, Peru: First step for breeding programs, selection, and conservation(Mymensingh: Network for the Veterinarians of Bangladesh, 2024-06-22) Palomino Guerrera, Walter; Laimes Estrada, Yeferson; Godoy Padilla, David; Cruz Luis, Juancarlos; Trillo Zárate, FritzThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the phenotypic characteristics and typification of Creole goats in five localities of the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru. Materials and Methods: Data from 149 goats (25 males and 124 females) were collected, excluding animals under 2 years of age, pregnant, and sick. Seven qualitative characteristics and 11 zometric measurements were evaluated, and then 9 zometric indices were estimated. Results: In the region, goats with composite colors predominated (76.50%). Additionally, supernumerary (24.20%) and divergent teats (22.60%) were observed in females, while males exhibited a scrotal bifurcation (32.00%). The origin of the flock had a significant effect (p < 0.05) on body measurements, as well as on pelvic index, transverse pelvic index, longitudinal pelvic index, compactness index, and load cannon bone index, except for body index (BOI), proportionality index, dactyl thorax index (DTI), and relative cannon bone thickness index (p > 0.05). In the Ayacucho region, there is a predominance of light animals (57.72%) with a significant DTI (p < 0.05) among the populations, including goats with good balance and capable of walking long distances. Furthermore, there are compact animals (47.65%) with a significant BOI (p < 0.05) among the flock populations, which animals are of the biotype of meat. Conversely, the strongest positive correlation (r = 0.89) was discovered between chest girth and body weight.
